Annual Spring Yard Sale 2009

Whew!  What a weekend.  It's a lot of work, but in the end I'm always happy we do it.  I really do enjoy seeing all of our favorite customers getting such good deals.  (okay-okay, Mom & I always grab a good deal or two for ourselves.  I tell ya, it is sooo hard not to keep it all, but Mom raised me right.  So I share.)

Saturday morning started very early for me.  I woke up at 4:30am even though my alarm was set for 5:15.  (Hubby likes to sleep with the windows open and that morning I kept hearing noises outside.)  So we got up at Dark Thirty and began hauling all of the yardsale goodies across the street.  I think the location worked out really well.  We had ample space for all the tables & good parking, too.  (The neighbor business owner was a little upset about the overflow into his parking lot, but it was 8:oo in the morning.  Who was he expecting?  Geesh!)

We had over 35 sellers this time, and our top seller was... JUDY TROLL @ $208.75.  Way to go girl!!

Second place was a tie @ $175:  Lorna David & Amber Widener.  You girls rock!  (Even though Amber may have been pumping up her numbers by almost buying her OWN stuff... you are sooo funny!)

BIG THANK YOU's to...

• My Hubby & my children - for helping load and unload all of that stuff, especially for getting the extra tables cleared off from TPH and brought over to the sale at the last minute. 

• Lorna & Ruby - for helping sort through all the goodies on Friday morning.

• Lisa, Shere & Lorna - for helping finish setting up at Dark Thirty and for adding up each customer's order... 1 item at a time!!

• The Mom - for putting up with my seemingly pointless requests and for always caring enough to make me coffee.  I love you unconditionally!

Seller's unsold items are now available for pickup.  Store Credit totals are also ready.  So, grab a pink basket and fill 'er up.  It's on The House!

Recipe Swap

So since I'm in the trading mood...  (read post below)

I wanna give y'all a heads up on my plans for a Recipe Swap!  Each month we'll choose a theme (desserts, casseroles, whatever) and meet at The Pink House to trade recipes.  Of course we'll have to sample the recipes while we talk, and we'll provide each other with decorated recipe pages to build our own Recipe Swap Albums.  Cool, huh?

Our first Recipe Swap will be Sat, May 16th @ 11am.  Theme: Crockpot Dishes. 

Swap #2 will be the same day at 12pm noon.  Theme: Cold Desserts.

And to help get you in the mood, here's a recipe I found at the Cookbookin' website.

Apple Pie in a Goblet

• 3 Large golden delicious apples – peeled, cored and chopped

• ¼ C Sugar

• ¼ C Water

• ½ t Cinnamon

• 16 Shortbread cookies, crumbled

• 1 Pint Vanilla ice-cream or frozen

yogurt

Combine apples, sugar, water and cinnamon in a medium saucepan and simmer over medium heat.  Cover and stir occasionally for 15 minutes.  Remove the lid and cook for 5 more minutes, until apples are soft and liquid is almost evaporated.  Sprinkle half the cookie crumbs among the 4 goblets. Divide frozen yogurt or ice-cream among the four goblets and top each with a quarter of the apples. Sprinkle the tops with remaining cookie crumbs and serve right away.

I've seen many layouts re-designed over the past decade in all the different scrapbook magazines, but Cathy's approach is very inspiring.  She's gives such detail on the how & why, without insulting any differing points of view. 

I'd love to do this!  How about a trade?  I'll re-design your layout and you re-design mine.  Here's how it'll work...  Submit to me via e-mail a layout you'd like me to re-design.  Each month I'll randomly pick from the submissions and re-do the layout, Pink House Style!  I'll also post a layout I'm struggling with and ask you all to re-design it.  I'll post some of the re-designed versions, and everyone wins a prize.

Back from Spring Break

Let's talk about the weather for a second...

Who authorized the FREEZING temperatures at the beginning of our Southern Spring Break last week?  There is NO EXCUSE for 30 degree weather in APRIL in SC!!!  Toward the end of the week we finally got into the 70's, but the wind at the beach still kept it cold.  I am so bummed - you don't even understand. 

To top if off, I didn't bring the sunscreen.  So not only was I shivering all day Thursday & Friday while my kids actually got in that frigid ocean, I came home with a hot pink faced sunburn.  It'll turn tan soon enough, but I'm still mad about the whole situation.  I may just have to move back to Florida if I can't get some heat up here.  :P

So EASTER was good... I took the kids over to Shelley's again this year.  There were over 560 candy-filled eggs for them to "hunt".  We had such a good time.  I'll update you with pictures soon.

Lots going on at The Pink House this week...  Yard Sale stuff is due... 2 big deliveries expected... Our Annual Spring Yard Sale is this Saturday, 8am-until noon-ish.  Early birds definitely get the best worms!
